Dr. Henry Cloud, Necessary Endings

So much in our world has changed and continues to change. Our past experiences, where we have discovered our own personal resilience, will help us see new paths forward.

These thoughts are from the book “Necessary Endings” written by Dr. Henry Cloud, which I have returned to several times over the years.

When truth presents itself the wise person sees the light, takes it in, and makes adjustments. This past week I was reflecting on some of my lessons in wisdom.

In 2014 I was laid off after working for a large consulting firm for more than 8 years. My transition to my next role took 9 months. During that time I developed many different rituals, including developing a gratitude practice, a morning walk in the park, and disconnecting from technology. I started to do a weekly reflection, more meal prep enjoying healthy nourishing foods, while investing in heart centred relationships.

My goal was simply to work with “smart, great people”, work no more than 40 hours per week, creating space to pause and reflect striving towards excellence not perfection.

When I stepped into my new role, I was working in a new sector. For the first number of months I kept the commitment to myself of harmonizing life. Once the 10 and 12 hour days returned, while expanding my learning on nutrition and wellness,

I reflected on the lessons learned and decided a change was needed.

It would have been easy to continue on that familiar path of working harder not smarter.

As some of our business start to reopen and some move from working from at home what path will you consider? Will you return to what was familiar? Or will you consider a new path where you make different choices to discover that sweet spot of harmonizing life? We can make new choices.

Be kind.  Be patient.  Take good care.

Be nourished in all you do
